DER KRAHNSTÖVER

This atmospheric short film introduces the mythical character of the „Krahnstöver“ who is the secret sovereign over the tide in Hamburg’s waters, using his over-sensitive ear and vintage measuring devices to control the city’s fate. With its black and white aesthetic, dense soundscapes and its original soundtrack the viewer is drawn into the depths of the hanseatic „Fleets“, the tide-dependent canals that have run through the entire inner city since the Middle Ages. While reflecting on isolation and solitude, the film also offers comic relief.
